Mr Langford is keen to get our school involved in our local ‘Green Clean’ event.
This September in Shropshire there will be three ‘Green Clean’ events, the third of which will be in Rea Valley on Saturday 28th September 2019, which is being supported by both Pontesbury and Minsterley Parish Councils. CPRE is also hoping that our pupils and their families can participate in the event, along with other schools and groups.
The national campaign, led by CPRE, has so far resulted in the collection of over 11,000 bottles and cans and hundreds of bags of rubbish across the UK, leading to a cleaner and safer environment for wildlife, nature, and us, to enjoy.

“As part of CPRE’s Green Clean we will be holding a number of litter picks across Shropshire to help clean up Shropshire’s beautiful countryside. We really hope you can show your support for our vital green spaces by coming along! The event on the day is always friendly, welcoming and fun so we are encouraging as many locals as possible to come and join us!”

The meeting place will be on the footpath between Pontesbury and Minsterley opposite Malehurst Bank. Free parking will be available just after the turn onto the Asterley Road on the right – the field has kindly been offered for us to use by the farmer who owns the field. CPRE will provide high visability vests, protective gloves and sacks to collect the rubbish. The drop off points for the sacks will be – for Pontesbury, by the old station house on Station Road where the recycling bins used to be and, for Minsterley, at Minsterley Parish Hall where the recycling bins used to be. CPRE will collect the sacks, count the numbers of bottles and include the figures in their central office count.
CPRE will carry out a risk-assessment and instructions about safety before the collection takes place. It is anticipated that the collection will only take an hour or two.
CPRE has launched a campaign nationwide to bring to central government’s attention the amount of waste bottles (glass, plastic and tetrapak) that are discarded in our countryside. The aim is to achieve central government’s agreement to place recycling containers in supermarkets, so that these bottles can be properly recycled. To give a proper account of the amount, CPRE holds “Green Cleans” in strategic areas.
