Year 3 teaching

Dear Parents/Carers,

The staffing in Year 3 will change slightly after half-term. Mrs Smout will continue to teach Monday-Wednesday with Mrs Davies (who returns from Maternity Leave) teaching Wednesday-Friday. Mrs Christopher, Mrs Davies and Mrs Keyland will also remain with the class.

We wish to thank Mr Tipton for all he has done and we hope to see him again soon.

Many thanks,

Mr Lowrie-Herz

Children’s Mental Health Week

Next week, it is Children’s Mental Health Week.  We would like to show our support for this by joining in with their ‘Dress to Express’ day next Friday 10th February.  The children can come to school in their own clothes to express their personality.

If your child/children has PE on this day then they can either bring their PE kit to get changed, bring some trainers or do PE in their own clothes if they are already suitable (i.e. trainers and tracksuit bottoms).

The week is run by a charity called Place 2 Be.  We are joining in with the activities and Dress to Express day to raise awareness of children’s mental health, however, if you would like to make a donation to the Place 2 Be Charity you can do so through their website directly.

Reminder – walk today

Good morning!

Just a reminder that Year 3 will be taking a walk around the village later this morning (Wednesday) as part of our Geography work. Please ensure your child has a warm coat. They are welcome to bring trainers/walking boots or wellies to walk in.

Thank you.

Spellings

Happy Friday!

Please find this week’s spellings here: Spellings 20.1

We didn’t go on our walk around the village on Wednesday morning as the pavements were too slippy for the children. We plan to do it this Wednesday (25th). Children are welcome to bring trainers/walking boots or wellies to walk in.

Thank you for your support on this.

Mrs Smout

Wrap up on Wednesday

We’re planning to take a walk around the village tomorrow as we are carrying out some map work in Geography. It’s going to be another cold day so please send your child with a warm coat, hat and gloves. Thank you.

Spellings and Maths

Please find the spellings to be tested on Friday. Spellings 13 01

We covered the unit ‘Adding and subtracting amounts of money’, this week. Most children found this particularly challenging. They had to add two items together and subtract the amount from 50p, £1 or £2 depending on their task.

As adults, we don’t tend to use cash to pay for our goods as much as we use our cards so our children are less exposed to the process. If you would like to support your child, I would suggest either setting up a little shop to play with at home or encourage them to help you pay for a couple of small items when out shopping. At home, you could label a few items – fruit, toys, teddies, etc – under £1 and ask them to buy two, find the total and ask them how much change they would receive from either 50p or £1. This is only a suggestion to help support your children not a set homework activity.

Happy New Year!

Here’s wishing you all a very happy and healthy new year! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and would like to say a huge thank you for all the lovely presents you kindly gave to all staff in South America class.
