We are holding an Egyptians day on Friday 18th February to end our topic of Ancient Egyptians. We will be creating some arts and crafts as well as learning about Egyptian games. If you would like your child to dress as an Ancient Egyptian, then that would be great: It doesn’t need to be an expensive costume!
Please could they bring in PE kit for the afternoon session.

Dear parents,
We have an exciting opportunity to offer Year 3, in lieu of them missing out on the Colomendy residential visit, we are delighted to be able to bring them Camp PPS.
Camp PPS (run by The Outdoors People) will be a 24 hours experience (hopefully at least 8 hours will be spent sleeping) from 3pm on Thursday 5th May to 3pm on Friday 6th May 2022.
During the 24 hours the children will:

They will be fed dinner, breakfast and lunch during the 24 hours and plenty of drinks and snacks, and of course the optional bugs!
This will be the second Camp PPS and once again we have opted to include a Night Watch so everyone – parents, staff and children can sleep soundly knowing the children are safe. The Outdoors People will be providing qualified instructors and of course PPS staff led by Mr Lowrie-Herz and Mrs Crane will be joining in the fun too.
The cost of this fabulous experience will be £60 which we feel is excellent value for money. If you have any questions please contact the school office. Further details and kit list to follow.

To secure your child’s place we ask for a £10 deposit by Monday 7th February and the remaining balance of £50 no later than Monday 25th April.

Room 2’s Christmas party didn’t happen due to school closing early last term so their party (New Year Party) is going to be held tomorrow afternoon (Thursday 6th January 2022).
Children can bring in their party clothes (in a named bag please) for tomorrow afternoon, they will change after lunch.

Dear Parents / Carers,
First of all, from all the staff at PPS, we just want to say a big thank you to all of you for everything that you have done this year, helping children to learn at home, putting up with all the measures that we have put in place and helping to keep our children and our school safe.
There is a little bit of information regarding procedures for September below:
We will continue coming into school wearing our PE kits on PE days, we will be posting which days each class has PE during the PD days in September so please make sure you check the website before returning to school. If your child has a sports club after school, then please send them into school wearing their uniform with their clothes for club in a separate bag for that day. Children will be able to get changed for their club after school.
Please ensure that all children are wearing sensible school shoes that they are able to run in. No trainers or slip on shoes please.
We politely ask that no rucksacks are brought into school as we don’t have the space for them in our cloakrooms, this last term the school has been so much tidier without huge rucksacks taking up lots of room! Please send reading packets and water bottles in by themselves, or in a blue school book bag. There is also no need to bring in a pencil case, all stationery will be provided by school.
Morning drop off will stay the same as it has been this term with our one way system and children going to their classroom doors from 8.45. Registration is at 9am in their classrooms, any children arriving after 8.55 will need to go into school through the main office doors so that they can get to their classrooms on time.

This week we are completing our D&T unit on food technology. We are making some healthy Greek inspired Pitta Pockets. The children have tasted different salad foods and have chosen what they would like to include in their pitta breads. Tomorrow we will make them, practising our skills of chopping, slicing and presentation.
After they have made them, they can eat them (it will just be half a pitta bread) in a little class picnic.
The children will also be having an extra PE session on Monday afternoon with Crossbar so please come in your PE kit on Monday and on Wednesday next week.
Please can I also ask everyone to have a really good search at home for any school reading books and return them as soon as possible?

Maths
Today we look at pictograms and tally charts. Please try the sheet below. You may need to copy out the tally charts if you don’t have a printer.
This afternoon we designed an ancient Greek vase. We looked at examples and chose a story to show on our vase. We also practised some patterns to use to decorate the top and bottom of our vase. Please have a go at designing a vase – use the patterns below to help you.

The children in Room 2 enjoyed an informative talk and Q&A session a few weeks ago about the health and safety measures on a building site. They tried on high vis jackets, hard hats, safety goggles and gloves and even had a go with the air horn that alerts the site staff to a problem.
The talk concluded with a challenge to design a poster about site safety. All the children in Room 2 took part and designed their own poster. The finished artwork was given to S J Roberts to judge. We were delighted to welcome Dean from S J Roberts to school once again to announce the winner of the competition.
Congratulations to Niamh McGuiness-Buckley whose design was chosen. The design has been made into a large poster that will be displayed on the site on Linley Avenue as well as at school.
I managed to capture the moment Niamh found out she was the winner!
Dean explained it wasn’t an easy competition to judge because all the designs were very good.
Well done Room 2 you were a credit to Pontesbury CE Primary School!
English today we will be doing our assessed writing. So today I’d like you to practise your story writing. You could use the picture below and story starter from Pobble 365 as inspiration for your story or you can make up your own.

Today I have given you an arithmetic test. This just concentrates on the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
